Dr. Flanagan later went to work for Tufts University and began his next
stage of research on the Neurophone, As a research scientist for Tufts, he began to
work on a man to dolphin speech system for the Navy. This research led to the
development of a 3-D holographic sound system which could place sounds in any
location in space as perceived by a listener.
Additional research led to a vastly improved digital Neurophone, for which a
patent application was filed. Immediately, the United States Defense Intelligence
Agency placed it under a secrecy order as a matter of national security. Dr.
Flanagan was forbidden from conducting further research or even talking about his
technology for four years.
This technology has now been replaced with superior technology developed
in Europe in 2001. The technology far surpasses the performance of the Flanagan
invention in all applications by integrating modern circuit designs with 21st century
engineering. The new technology delivers significantly gTeateT eneTgy efficiency
through a more biologically compatible signal. This technology will be made
available in late 2001 or early 2002 for accelerated learning applications, body
system balancing and trials in hearing enhancement applications.
In the years since, Dr. Flanagan periodically toyed with new concept and
design advances for Neurophonic technology. This device could be used as the
ultimate computer to brain interface tool, and is being considered for reintroduction
into the market place. The idea that large amounts of properly formatted information
can be transferred into long term memory would revolutionize education, making the
current model obsolete. Education would shift to greater emphasis on learning
strategies and resources, rather than data accumulation. These changes would
establish greater possibilities for creative advancement and self-actualization by
mastery of intellectual potentials.
The Neurophone was one of the most powerful brain entrainment devices
developed until new advances were made in the science in Europe in 2001. In recent
years, these other researchers have advanced the technology and continued to work on
the possibilities it offers, with an emphasis on other modes of transmission. Given
the Defense Intelligence Agency's interest in the earlier device, it is very likely that
they have also continued to woTk to improve it. Discussions with several inventors
over the last few years about the HAARP project revealed that this radio transmitter,
the ionospheric heater, could possibly be used as a wireless brain entrainment device.
This use has the greatest invasive possibilities.234
Brain Biofeedback
Real time brain biofeedback is another area of brain research which is
beginning to provide great opportunities to many individuals. This area has yielded
new approaches foT gaining control of the mind. Through interactive computer
technologies, it is now possible to monitor brain waves on a real-time basis, so that
